Mexican producer Juan Carlos Segura, who has worked with famous actors such as Tom Sizemore, Stacey Keach, Ana Serradilla, Laura Zapata and Wes Bentley, will debut his latest film Goats starring David Duchovny and Vera Farmiga, on theaters and Video on Demand (VOD) on August 10th. The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and received enthusiastic reactions from audiences, securing distribution by Image Entertainment.
The 94 minute feature filmed in Tucson, Arizona, tells the story of Ellis (Graham Phillips), member of an eccentric family and son of a New Age hippie (Vera Farmiga), who at his 15 years of age decides to move to the East Coast to go to the same prep school that his father (Ty Burrell) went to. But as he re-connects with his estranged father and his new wife (Keri Russell), he finds Goat Man’s (David Duchovny) influence and his life out West thrown into stark contrast.
Based on Mark Jude Poirier’s best-selling novel, director Christopher Neil’s hilarious and poignant film is a witty reversal of the coming of age formula, a beautifully honest portrayal of life with its rough edges, awkward moments, and non-endings.
Juan Carlos feels very fortunate to have had the opportunity to make this project a reality, a film with an A-List cast, an amazing director, beautiful cinematography and a profoundly moving script that will no doubt touch the hearts of every viewer.
“I feel very proud of having the opportunity to work with a cast of such caliber. These are all people I have admired for a long time for their great talent. Many of them I have seen for years both in TV and films and I never imagined that I would some day work with them on a same project…I hope this opportunity opens more doors helping turn my dreams into a reality.” comments Segura.
This is the second American production that Juan Carlos has been involved in as a producer. The first was the film Cellmates starring Tom Sizemore, which premiered in select theaters and VOD in June of this year. This project was produced under his production company Producciones a Ciegas that he formed a few years ago alongside actor Héctor Jiménez and his sister, actress Olga Segura.
Along with this pair of productions with international appeal, Juan Carlos’s production company has several new and exciting projects soon to be released.
In November of this year the film Hidden Moon, directed by Pepe Bojorquez (producer of Selena) and starring Ana Serradilla and Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games) will premiere in theaters in Mexico. This film tells the love story of a Mexican woman, Miranda Rios, who migrates to the United States in search of the American dream and ends up falling deeply in love with her American employer, Victor Brighton. The film, which is expected to premiere in the U.S. some time after it’s release in Mexico, also stars Olga Segura, Osvaldo de León, Angélica María and Héctor Jiménez.
Another project in the near horizon is the highly anticipated film Marcelo, formerly known as Todo Un Hombre. The film stars Mexican actor Aaron Díaz in an amazing performance, the likes of which has never been seen before. This script was selected and developed directly by Juan Carlos and his partners at Producciones a Ciegas and has flourished into a great accomplishment for them. It is soon expected to hit theaters in Mexico.
There is no doubt that the thriving producer Juan Carlos Segura will soon be the buzz of Hollywood as one of just a few Mexican producers who have come to collaborate with major Hollywood talent at such a young age. With these incredible projects soon to be released and even more in development, his hope is to achieve several of his many objectives, which include increasing the presence of Latinos in Hollywood, and inspiring more talented Latinos to fulfill their dreams.
