You prepare a long time for a marathon by eating right, entering a vigorous exercising routine and getting your mind set. The sun is shining and friends and family are there cheering you on. When suddenly, it hits, a bomb explodes and people run everywhere. First responders, policeman and fireman spring into action to save the innocent lives.
This was the scene one year ago at the Boston Marathon. Now one year later, many people may still be shocked, heartbroken and confused on why their own loved ones. In situations like this, there are always innocent by standards ready to help.
The innocent by standard that day was Carlos Arredondo, a man that photographers captured him assisting with the rescue of survivor Jeff Bauman. Bauman was a man who lost both legs in the attack.
For many people, attending the marathon a year later is a bit scary, which they are not to blame. Arredondo will attend this year’s marathon with Bauman’s family and hopes that “it is a better day”.
The most heroic act of that day was when Bauman helped make a case against the criminals and Arredondo helped saved Bauman life.
With every tragedy there is always an act of heroism and this case is no exception. Showing support and attending the marathon gives hope that people move on with the support of others.
