Selena Gomez will kick off the new year hosting her third concert for UNICEF. The event will take place on January 19, 2013. The concert’s proceeds will be used to benefit programs that provide nutrition, clean water, medicine, education, and other necessities to children internationally.
Gomez has been a spokesperson for UNICEF since October 2008 when she joined the organization’s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. She became its youngest ambassador ever at the age of 17.
When asked about the concert, Gomez stated, “Nothing is more important than helping children in need around the globe. I’m thankful that I can use my voice to bring awareness and much-needed funds to UNICEF so they can continue their critical work. Together, with my fans, we can save lives.”
Gomez is also seeing the concert as an opportunity to re-emerge in the music scene. She and her band, The Scene, had chosen to take a hiatus for the year 2012 so that the star could focus on her acting. She recently tweeted, “2013 is a year of music for me and this is such a great way to kick it off. # Selenaunicef.”
The concert will be held at the Best Buy Theater in New York City. Tickets go on sale starting December 21 at 10PM.
