(SBS) (Nasdaq:SBSA) entertainment division,SBS Entertainment (SBSE) and its leading Spanish-language radio stations DJ106.7FM and El Zol 95.7FM announced today that Grammy nominee Romeo Santos will bring his distinctive and sensual bachata beat to Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 8 p.m. (ET).
Romeo Santos’ album Formula Vol. 1, the top-selling Latin album of 2012, is currently nominated for a 2013 Grammy for Best Tropical Album. Last year, as a solo artist, he was honored with an MTV VMA for Top Latin Artist. He also received an American Billboard for Top Latin Album.
“Once again SBS Entertainment is proud to present the most awaited show of the year in the states, where the young crowd will enjoy one of the biggest name in the entertainment business Romeo Santos. Romeo Santos’ tour “The King Stays King” promises to be a show filled with exciting surprises. SBS Entertainment is proud to consistently bring innovation to the new generation,” stated Lucas Pina, SR.VP of SBS Entertainment.
A charismatic and natural artist whose formidable showmanship captivates his audience, Romeo Santos’ confidence, humor and intense connection with his fans is what keeps drawing them back. Santos wears multiple hats as a producer, composer and vocalist, but, above all, is a master wordsmith. His colorful palette of metaphors paints vivid portraits of love, passion, anger, jealousy and even domestic violence. Santos’ creativity has elevated him to the highest status in the music industry with multiple awards (apart from the myriad of honors bestowed upon his former band Aventura) for nearly a decade. Almost every year since 2005, Santos has won awards in one or more categories at ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors & Publishers) and Billboard.
While most 13 year-old boys were out chasing girls and shooting hoops, the formerly shy Romeo Santos opted to stay home, penning his first songs. Bachata idol Antony “El Mayimbe” Santos along with popular artists Camilo Sesto, Manuel Alejandro, Juan Gabriel, Omar Alfano, and – of course – Juan Luis Guerra were his main influences. After joining his church choir with his cousin Henry Santos they soon met Lenny and Mikey to form Aventura. From inception, Santos wrote (arranged and produced in collaboration with Lenny) Aventura’s songs, recording only one cover (“Gone” as contained on We Broke The Rules) throughout the group’s amazing trajectory. A string of hits – “Obsesion,” “Cuando Volverás” (When Will You Return), “Todavia Me Amas” (You Still Love Me), “Hermanita” (Little Sister), “La Boda” (The Wedding), “Un Beso” (A Kiss), “Mi Corazoncito” (My Heart), “Los Infieles” (The Cheaters), “El Perdedor” (The Loser), “Por un Segundo” (For a Second), “Su Veneno” (Her Poison), “Dile al Amor” (Tell Love) and “El Malo” (The Bad Guy) to name a few – were Aventura’s catalyst to stardom. His soulful rendition of “Lagrimas” – recorded for a TV tribute to Jose Jose – went viral overnight.
By late 2002 Romeo’s megahit “Obsesion” as performed by Aventura, had traveled the world – Latin America, Asia and Europe, including Israel, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, to name a few. There was a preponderance of cover recordings of “Obsesion,” including one by Third Wish, a band based in Germany. At one point in 2004, Obsesion by Aventura was #1 and the Third Wish version #2. In 2006, after Frankie J had covered Obsesion and the song was #1 on mainstream charts for nearly 22 weeks, Santos took the ASCAP Song of The Year in tropical music and another in the American market in Pop – the first time a Hispanic writer had won an ASCAP award in the American market. In 2007, Romeo took the Billboard Composer of the Year Award over legendary writers such as Marco Antonio Solis and Joan Sebastian. In 2010, Anthony took ASCAP Composer of The Year.
Santos has also penned hits for artists such as Wisin & Yandel (“Noche de Sexo”), Thalia (“No No No”), El Torito (“Me Voy” aka “El Anillo”) and Anthony “El Mayimbe” Santos (“Matame”).
In 2011, Santos launched his solo career with the album Fórmula, Vol .1, an eclectic mix of bachata, R&B, ballads, up-tempo and fusion. While all of the bachata tracks are written, arranged and produced by Romeo himself, he invited A-list producers to collaborate on the English-language tracks. To date, it’s spun off no fewer than five chart-topping hits – “You,” “Promise” featuring Usher, “La Diabla” (The She-Devil), “Mi Santa” (My Saint) and “Rival,” featuring Mario Domm. Last July, Fórmula Vol. 1 was certified Triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales in the U.S. and Puerto Rico exceeding 300,000 units.
Santos’ February 2012 two-hour concert of The King Stays King – Sold Out at Madison Square Garden featuring P. Diddy, Usher, and Wisin & Yandel premiered exclusively at movie theaters across the United States at a one-night-only event on November 5, 2012, making Romeo Santos the first Latin artist in the U.S. to premiere a concert DVD in cinemas.
