About the event
The Fourteenth Annual Latino Trendsetter Awards, a landmark celebration of excellence in enterprise, arts, entertainment, health, education and community leadership, will be held at on Tuesday, May 10th, 2016 from 6-10 P.M. at The Symphony Space Theater in New York City. The event is sponsored in part by New York Presbyterian Hospital, Inca Kola and CUNY and presented by LatinTRENDS. It will commence with a VIP red carpet reception, attended by awardees, influencers and media.The award presentation will be partially open to the public and special guest and will start at 8PM. It will feature a musical performances by Frankie Negron , a multi-cultural dance performance featuring tango, flamenco, salsa and bachata music. Emerging urban Tropical musician, Doñé, will perform live as well.
The Event will be co-hosted by Actress, speaker and author, April Hernandez Castillo and Luxury Real Estate Broker and star of Bravo’s Emmy-Nominated Million Dollar Listing New York, Luis D. Ortiz
Meet Sandra
Sandra Harris counts with extensive experience in the helping professions, government, non-profit, health and mental health services field. Early in her career, she provided housing advocacy services, directed a community mental health program for immigrant populations and lead a national healthcare collaborative to advance health care access for underserved and underrepresented populations. Sandra specializes on building strategic collaborative partnerships, conducting needs inventory and resource mapping, program development, partnership relations and communications.
As a Latina, she frequently shares her knowledge on diverse issues faced by multi-ethnic communities. During her travels around the world as a member of the Kellogg Foundation’s Community Voices health initiative visiting developing countries, Sandra gained insight that furthered her expertise while learning how communities developed new solutions to deal with barriers encountered on a daily basis. This experience has shaped her professional career as she affirms that relationships are the primary ingredient in our work with others; it is most often what brings parties to the table and keeps them there when differences of opinions and conflicts arise.
Presently, Sandra is assistant vice president at Columbia University Medical Center’s office of Government and Community affairs. In her role, she promotes and advocates for the medical center’s academic research, education and service mission with the external community, local and state government stakeholders. She is the Medical Center’s liaison on community development initiatives and is responsible for establishing and maintaining community-academic relations, facilitating the creation of campus-community partnerships that yield improved community health outcomes while advancing academic health research and discoveries. Sandra has a keen understanding of collaborative processes and is well known for her ability to bring partners to the table to work on mutually beneficial projects and initiatives. She brings her expertise as the president of HarriSolutions, LLC, a company that provides professional development coaching services to individuals and organizations.
Sandra has a Master’s of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution from Columbia University, Masters of Social Work from Hunter College City University of New York and is a licensed social work practitioner in the state of New York. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to advancing the agenda of underserved communities in New York City. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Campus Community Partnerships for Health, American Public Health Association, Encuentros, Acting Chair of the Board of Directors of the Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation, president of the Washington Heights Inwood Chamber of Commerce and president and founder of HarriSolutions, LLC.
