About the event
The Fourteenth Annual Latino Trendsetter Awards, a landmark celebration of excellence in enterprise, arts, entertainment, health, education and community leadership, will be held at on Tuesday, May 10th, 2016 from 6-10 P.M. at The Symphony Space Theater in New York City. The event is sponsored in part by New York Presbyterian Hospital, Inca Kola, CUNY . Media (sweepstakes) partners, La Mega 97.9 & Amor 93.1 and presented by LatinTRENDS. It will commence with a VIP red carpet reception, attended by awardees, influencers and media.The award presentation will be partially open to the public and special guest and will start at 8PM. It will feature a musical performances by Frankie Negron , a multi-cultural dance performance featuring tango, flamenco, salsa and bachata music. Emerging urban Tropical musician, Doñé, will perform live as well.
The Event will be co-hosted by Actress, speaker and author, April Hernandez Castillo and Luxury Real Estate Broker and star of Bravo’s Emmy-Nominated Million Dollar Listing New York, Luis D. Ortiz
Kristie Gonzales is the Promotion and Digital Brand Manager at WABC-TV, New York’s number one television station and the most-watched station in the United States. She’s a broadcast executive with 16 years of success promoting media brands in culturally diverse markets, shepherding those brands into the age of digital and mobile consumption. Currently, she oversees all marketing of Channel 7 Eyewitness News as well as the audience growth strategy on their social and digital channels. Gonzales is an expert in creating strategic, branded campaigns that drive television ratings and boost audience loyalty, with an in-depth understanding of the multi-cultural market. She is considered an industry leader in social media brand extension and digital tune-in, with a track record of using social audience analytics to optimize on-air promotion strategy.
In 2013, Gonzales was nominated to represent ABC Owned Television Stations on a Disney ABC Television Group Hispanic Task Force. She quickly enlisted the help of her colleagues in their seven other Owned markets, forming a group that focuses on serving the needs of the Latino consumer and promoting diversity within their television stations. Gonzales is passionate about mentoring women and minorities, encouraging them to aspire to positions of power within television.
Gonzales moved to New York in April 2014 after holding various management positions in television stations across the country. In her previous role, she was the Creative Services and Local Programming Director at WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, managing a staff of almost 30 employees. From 2010-2013, she was Creative Services and Public Affairs Director at KFSN-TV in Fresno, CA. It was there she helped bring in the largest food donation ever to the Central Valley. She started in the ABC Owned Television Group in 2006 when she was hired as a Promotion Writer and Producer at WPVI-TV in Philadelphia.
Driven by the notion to whom much is given, much is expected, Gonzales has served on boards that aid victims of domestic violence and promote entrepreneurship. She is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and a board member of Vision for Equality, a non-profit that advocates for people with disabilities. In New York, she is an active volunteer, sharing her experiences with minority students and speaking on panels.
Gonzales was born in Southern California and grew up in New Mexico, where most of her family still resides. She studied painting and journalism in college and graduated summa cum laude with double honors from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
