HBO Sports’ flagship boxing series presents an all-action affair when WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: ERIK MORALES VS. DANNY GARCIA AND JAMES KIRKLAND VS. CARLOS MOLINA is seen live SATURDAY, MARCH 24 at 10:15 p.m. (ET)/7:15 p.m. (PT), from Reliant Arena in Houston, exclusively on HBO. The telecast will be presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.
The 12-round main event showcases all-time Mexican great Erik Morales (52-7, 36 KOs) defending his super lightweight title against unbeaten 23-year-old Philadelphia native Danny Garcia (22-0, 14 KOs). Morales, 35, had a strong 2011 and looks to add to his Hall of Fame-caliber resume this year.
In the opening bout, one of boxing’s most compelling fighters makes his 2012 debut as Austin resident James Kirkland (30-1, 27 KOs) squares off with Chicago’s Carlos Molina (19-4-2, 6 KOs) in a ten-round junior middleweight bout. Kirkland, 27, fired up the boxing world last month with a sixth-round KO of Alfredo Angulo in one of the year’s top slugfests. The 28-year-old Molina, a native of Patxcuaro, Mexico, has displayed formidable skills in battling Erislandy Lara to a draw and scoring a win over Kermit Cintron.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28, this HBO Sports presentation was postponed due to illness.
The executive producer of WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is Rick Bernstein; producer, Dave Harmon; director, Marc Payton.
