Gina Rodriguez is becoming known as an advocate for the Latino community wanting to use her celebrity status to unify the community as it continues to flourish in the country.
And now the star is recognizing accomplished Latinos in Hollywood in hopes of inspiring other Latinos to make future movements.
Taking to her Instagram account, the Jane the Virgin has started posting photos as part of her “Movement Mondays” series which shares inspirational Latino figures with her hundreds of fans.
Along with the hashtag #movementmondays, Rodriguez posts a picture of Latinos she is inspired by with blurbs written about their accomplishments, their impact on the Latino community, and what they mean to her and other Latinos in the country.
In her latest post on Monday, February 9th, Rodriguez posted a picture of Mexican-American director Robert Rodriguez whom the actress notes as being a key figure making a difference within the Latino community because he not only hires Latino talent but also prepares them for Hollywood.
“By hiring Latino directors and writers he is giving them opportunities to enter the industry as professionals with great work on their resume, prepared for success,” she explained. ” He is hiring Latino actors for roles we seldom get the opportunity to play. Having artists in his position of power and utilizing it to advance the community is why Robert is my #movementMondays….”
Also in the post, Rodriguez noted Rodriguez’s accomplishment of creating his own network El Rey Network which ascribes as being another vehicle that offers Latinos more opportunities within the entertainment industry.
“Let us support El Rey Network and the many shows coming out of that network so that Robert may continue to hire and put Latinos on the map!” Rodriguez captioned the photo, “I am inspired and in awe of this amazing trailblazer!”
And Robert Rodriguez is quite the trailblazer for Latinos and the Latino community itself.
On his El Rey Network, Rodriguez’s hit series From Dusk Till Dawn (an adaptation from his pop culture hit film released back in 1996) features a cast filled with Latino actors from Wilmer Valderrama, Jesse Garcia and Eiza González.
Thanks to Rodriguez’s network and show, the star of From Dusk Till Dawn González’s star is steadily rising in the country. A former telenovela actress, González’s success in the country is a slight repeat of history since she is playing the character of vampire Santanico Pandemonium who was once portrayed by Selma Hayek who also gained notoriety within the American film industry playing the same role and having help from Rodriguez himself.
In fact, in Rodriguez’s film career spanning from films like Desperado, The Faculty, Spy Kids, Sin City, and Machete Rodriguez has helped launch or supported the careers of numbers Latino stars like Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Benicio del Toro, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, Eva Mendes, Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, and many more.
In response to Rodriguez’s kind post and words, the legendary director himself thanked the actress writing: “Thank you for the kind words @HereIsGina! You are truly an inspiration to us all. Keep up the good work!”
In her first two #movementmondays posts, Rodriguez introduced her Instagram followers to actors Oscar Isaac and Rosa Salazar.
