The city that never sleeps is now being known as the city that wakes up early to dance? What the?
Early morning dance raves and other parties in clubs are becoming popular in New York City as a form of exercise or a great wake-me-up.
Places in New York City and Williamsburg, Brooklyn, has already hosted several parties for dance crazed partygoers that opt for moving to the beat and sweating to the music instead of the typical exercises at the gym. New York isn’t the only city getting an early morning party workout. San Francisco, Atlanta and Los Angeles are just a few to follow this new trend.
Don’t come to these events with a sexy outfit, unless you have a cute pair of shorts or tights and sneakers to match. Many participants arrive in sweats and others arrive in corporate attire to head straight to work with the club banging energy that is needed to get through a long day.
Morning Gloryville NYC, one of the promoters of early morning dancing, offers coffee and smoothies instead of shot, shot, shot, shot, shot, shot… oh I mean alcohol to go along with the bass bumping electronic music known as rave.
Studies continuously show that dancing burns calories and fat, keeps your joints strong and durable and releases stress. In fact, dancing will also boost your memory and prevent dementia. So an early morning dance party is not only great fun but an awesome exercise.
Update Alert: Morning parties are now better known as Daybreaker events
Daybreaker is a self-proclaimed “morning movement” that’s taking cities by storm throughout America. People are joining in on what has become a mission to reinvent the nightclub scene.
Even young people are sick of the toxic club atmosphere. They’re over the drugs and alcohol that are typical in that scene. They are tired of its drunken sexual harassment and the morning after regret that comes with it. Daybreaker fills that void, letting people “dance their Asses off” before heading to work or school, and without drugs or alcohol.
Branded as both a morning workout option and a wholesome version of dance culture, the events cater to a crowd that appreciates a healthy lifestyle.
Daybreaker dance parties are different than anything most people have ever experienced. Typical dance clubs open somewhere around p p.m. and close their doors around 3 a.m., depending on the city. Daybreaker parties, on the other
Most partygoers are in their early 20s to late 30s, and run the gamete, from corporate employees, artists, entrepreneurs and everything in between.
General Assembly co-founder Matthew Brimer and Super Sprowtz founder and CEO Radha Agrawal created the concept. Both wanted to cultivate a community that values “camaraderie, self-expression, wellness, immediacy… and mischief.”
“You get some exercise in, you feel great physically, and it’s an incredible dance party,” said Brimer. “Dance culture and underground music tends to be boxed in to this idea that you need alcohol or drugs to enjoy it. What we’re trying to say is that there’s a whole sober world of creative experience…”
Attending the parties:
First, you have to wake up early and Instead of wearing flashy club attire, most Daybreaker patrons arrive in workout clothes or yoga attire. Some choose to dance up a storm in their office attire, then head straight to work after the party.
When you arrive at the party, you will see Daybreaker sign outside the building, bouncers stand at the door, collecting the admission fees, which is usually $25. Once inside, you will notice that these events offer a lot more than just dancing, as the emphasis is on getting a healthy start to the day.
Instead of the customary alcoholic beverages served at nightclubs, you’ll be treated to the complimentary coffee and tea at the bar. You can even opt for green juice or an oat-powered smoothie.
When you finish your dancing, you can even have a fruit salad, granola or other healthy foods that are laid out in a buffet style.
Another awesome perk offered at Daybreaker comes in the form of free massages. Masseuses set up their tables on balconies and ledges, perched to overlook the crowded dance floor below.
Alcohol & drugs are not tolerated:
