Hollywood celebrities like Julianne Moore, John Leguizamo, and Rosie Perez are sporting fedoras for the “Fedoras for Fairness” campaign, aiming to raise awareness about immigration reform. The fedora symbolizes the fight for immigration reform and the many hats that women wear. Each star has a personal quote regarding immigration reform and how their lives were impacted.
“When my mother was eight she immigrated to Los Angeles from El Salvador,” says model Christy Turlington Burns.
The black and white photo series shot by Albert Watson for the “Fedoras for Fairness” campaign was created by We Belong Together. We Belong Together is a campaign which tries to reach out to women throughout the country and have them rally for immigration reform. The campaign also includes a video directed by John Huba featuring personal stories and calls to action from the superstars.
“We are gratified that so many talented women and men from stage and screen have chosen to stand up and speak out at this critical moment in the debate over immigration reform,” said Vivien Labaton, co-chair of We Belong Together. “Like so many Americans, they believe that now is the time to pass legislation that creates a pathway to citizenship for 11 million immigrants and treats women and families fairly.”
