Music, dance, food, and being around family and friends are so important to a lot of people today no matter where you live. Though every once in a while, a celebration, or in this case, a carnival, brings more people closer together for some of the same reasons.
The Rio Carnival is a four day celebration of fun, food and festivities forty days before Easter. The people that participate in this carnival is called a samba school. A samba schools is a collection of local neighborhoods that want to attend a carnival together that has some commonality of geographic background. This is an all-night long parade where floats and performers parade in the streets of Rio de Janerio to entertain the attendees. Among the schools that participated in this carnival were Mangueira, Beija Flor, and Aguia de Ouro.
Highlights of the carnival were a pregnant dancer, people resembling a military tank, impersonators of Mario Bros., among others. The purpose of the Rio Carnival is to compete with fellow rival samba schools. This parade is a contest of who has the best float and performers and it will announce the winners later in the week.
