Full Figured Fashion Week is back for the third year and the attendees have tripled since the previous year, according to the event’s organizer Gwen DeVoe. She also stated that “it shows us that demand for high-quality fashions for women with curves simply isn’t being met.”
Out of the 15 designers that will be featured on Saturday, Toronto-based Ashaki Charles Designs designers Julie Thomson and Tene Charles will featured 12 of their own outfits. Thomson points out that women of all sizes love fashion, but find it a bit difficult finding outfits in certain sizes because a lot of designers won’t go into plus-size.
According to NPD Group, the plus-size apparel market sector is $17.6B, intimate plus-size apparel market is $3.2B, and specialty plus-size denim market is $679M.
Lane Bryant, one if three major plus-size apparel stores, is sponsoring the event.
Some major fashion trends among plus-size ladies this time around flare & wider legged-pants and animal prints. The “horizontal stripes will make you look heavier” rule has even been bent!
