Fast & Furious 8 causes Traffic Jams in Cuba!

maxresdefault

While the Fast & Furious franchise is continuing to grow as its next installment is currently being filmed in Cuba it may be a joy to some of the film’s fan but an upset to some Cuban residents.

Earlier this month, the 8th installment of the Fast & Furious series began filming and is said to be the film series first of the final trilogy of films that will conclude its run and send the franchise’s main characters off with a bang. And sadly, with Paul Walker passing thus the film giving his character a bittersweet sendoff from Fast & Furious 7 the film series finds a new addition to its cast in Charlize Theron.

And much like the excitement of the film series itself, the residents of Cuba are becoming excited as well by the grand film production that has appeared in the Caribbean country. Since production began and seemingly has taken over the island, the Havana neighborhood named Vedado located in Central and Old Havana is experience havoc with its daily commuter routine due to unusual traffic jams and groups of curious onlookers thanks to the film’s presence.

Fast & Furious is the first major U.S. film production to be shot in Cuba in over 50 years since the embargo was lifted, and it is not without notice. Barriers have been built keep in order to keep curious onlookers separated from the set, crew members, and as well. And thanks to these barriers local motorists are not exactly experiencing the same level of excitement as others.

This has never happened before,” said Yani, a state worker who describes how since the major streets are closed off she has to find alternate routes just to get around, adding that it has been “a nightmare.”

According to some of the Central Havana residents, the once tranquil neighborhood is no longer there due to the presence of the traffic jams to civilians and the press trying to capture the film’s activity despite being denied access.

It’s really crazy. There are many people complaining because they’re arriving late to work, sometimes they don’t announce where the filming will occur … but Cubans are adapting to it all,” said Alain, a Havana resident who, like many others, tried to find a spot in Malecon—one of the streets in Havana—in order to see the film being shot.

For a film series that is renowned for displaying some of the hottest and latest vehicles in spectacular car racing and high-tech action scenes, it comes as no surprise that Cuba was selected as a filming location.

If you were to walk down a street within a Cuban city, you can expect to find quite a few antique 1950s U.S. autos parked alongside a couple of curbs.

The 8th installment of Fast & Furious is set to hit theaters in 2017.

AZEVEDO DYNASTY SEEKS ITS FIRST OLYMPIC GOLD IN RIO

476384_10151826464540151_1767956126_o

Tony Azevedo
was at the USOC’s 100 Day Countdown to Rio in Times Square today. In many ways his appearance is a miracle. After all 30 years ago he was on an operating table only four years after entering this world. He survived and lived to become arguably the best Water Polo player in the United States, perhaps the World.

Born in Brazil but soon to call California home, Tony suffered an accident that saw his breathing cut off and heart still for four minutes. But he was spared. Its easy to see why in retrospect. He went on to dominate the sport in high school (4 titles) and college (two NCAA championships.)

The love for the sport is engrained in the family. His father played for Brazil’ water polo team and coached his son in his early years. Tony’s sister, Cassie, was a two-time All-American and played professionally in Italy while overcoming a congenital heart condition that temporarily delayed her career. But the man who was known as “The Savior” earned his keep in the water polo capital of the world, Croatia, and was named Captain of the U.S. team in 2012 after gaining silver in Beijing in 2008.

“When it comes to my team they look at me as this guy who is passionate and crazy about being the best,”

Azevedo explained.

Now, four years later, the last piece of metal to complete the attire of a most successful and inspirational story is only missing a happy ending. He also has the added pressure of returning to the home of his birth to accomplish this. All of the challenges to the Azevedo Family point to this moment. Tony stated before London and it can be applied to this run.

“Any athlete who thinks he can’t get better is at the end of his career,”

Acevedo deadpanned,

“It doesn’t matter the goals, the defense, the PR, it’s all about winning.”

Meet Johnny
Johnny Marines a native New Yorker from the Lower East Side, has been a monumental force in the meteoric rise to stardom for the Latin American group Aventura and more recently, Bachata star, Romeo Santos, who brought Johnny on board to continue being his manager.

brandpic88

Romeo Santos launched his solo career in 2011, with the critically acclaimed “Formula Vol. 1”, which is Five times platinum and had five #1 hits (the first artist do to so in nearly 16 years). Romeo won the Billboard Award for the Latin Album of the year, MTV VMA Award as Best Latino Music Artist, 2 Premio Juventud Awards, 3 Latin Billboard Awards including Album of the Year, and was nominated for an Alma Award as Favorite Male Music Artist and an American Grammy for Best Tropical Album. His Formula Vol. 1 Tour was sold out domestically and internationally, visiting over 60 cities and 3 sold out shows at the World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, with the production of a DVD reliving this moment in history, “The King Stays King”, on sale. In September 2013, Romeo and Johnny were invited to the White House again for the Musica Latina https://www.latintrends.com/meet-newarks-first-female-puerto-rican-police-chief/event in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

In February 2014, Romeo released his second solo album, Formula Vol. 2, has been awarded by RIAA with a Diamond certification and has won 3 Soberano Awards, 5 Premio Juventud Awards, 6 Premio lo Nuestro Awards, had a record-breaking 21 nominations for the Latin Billboard Awards in 2015, taking home 10 of them, and has won the 2015 American Billboard Award for Top Latin Artist. The first leg of his Formula Vol. 2 World Tour was sold out, including two historic nights at Yankee Stadium, making him the first Latin artist to ever headline and sell out a show at the world’s most prestigious ballpark joining the ranks of Madonna and Paul McCartney on the very short list of solo artists to ever achieve such a feat. And in 2015, Santos’ global appeal has reached an unparalleled level, selling out stadiums across the world from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina, to Spain and across Europe. Romeo closed out his second sold-out leg of the Formula Vol. 2 World Tour with three sold-out nights at the Barclays Center, the first Latin artist to do so. The success of Marines’ work ethic can be measured by the Romeo Santos’ rapid growth, which continues to extend into new markets today, far from his humble South Bronx roots. Just this year, Johhny has sat on the “Hola, can you hear me” panel at the 2015 Latin Billboard Music conference and the Managers: The start of big business panel at the 2015 Revolt Music Conference, he also has been selected as a “Latin Power Player” by Billboard for being one of the 20 most influential people in Latin music. The feature article is scheduled to be in the August 2015 Billboard magazine.

Before entering the music business, Johnny was an NYPD sergeant. During his tenure as a police officer, which included the height of the crack epidemic in the 90s, Johnny made and assisted in more than 1,000 arrests. Throughout his career, Marines was awarded 12 Excellent Police Duty medals as well as 4 Meritorious Police Duty medals for 4 separate Bribery arrests.

Despite all of his success, Johnny Marines has not forgotten his humble roots he came from. Johnny has dedicated a large portion of his time, effort and resources to giving back to his community. In conjunction with Aventura, Marines has co-funded toy drives in New York and the Dominican Republic; he has donated turkeys for hundreds of needy families during the holidays; several times a year, Johnny and his mother ship barrels of food to the Dominican Republic and school supplies to low income families to provide them with the tools they need to focus and acquire a quality education; and he has helped coordinate Aventura’s hospital visits to sick children throughout the Metropolitan Area. Also, Johnny has helped to fund and to create a non-profit, Lower East Side Sports Academy, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan which recently partnered with the NYC Police Athletic League and has over 300 young people participating in its third season this summer.  Johnny is in the process of establishing the Johnny Marines Blessings Foundation, which is established to foster, support, and fund educational advancement initiatives within New York City.

More recently, Johnny has begun sharing his story. Johnny communicates how he came to be the manager of the most influential Latin American group and now solo artist of our generation. Johnny speaks sincerely of his struggles and mistakes not only growing up in the Lower East Side, but also of the impediments he has had to overcome once in the music industry.  Marines lectures on the importance of diligence and always putting your best work forward, and relays his messages in ways that people from all walks of life can relate. Johnny’s story is a true testament to the American Dream, that with hard work, dedication and motivation, anything truly is possible. Johnny has spoken on numerous occasions at Harvard, Columbia, Syracuse, Lehman College, and St. John’s University.

The Day After Super Tuesday…The Sequel.

CNN-500x500_c

It appears that the predictions made after the first Super Tuesday is being backed and supported by the results of last night’s second Super Tuesday…

Senator Hillary Clinton & Donald Trump are one step closer to obtaining their party’s nomination in order to face-off against each other in the general election match-up for the 45th Presidency of the United States of America come November 2016.

Last night, Trump dominated the Republican primaries earning significant wins among five East Coast states. Meanwhile, Clinton proved strong as the Democratic lead winning in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut and Delaware but lost Rhode Island to Senator Bernie Sanders who is still in the race and could prove to be a problem for Clinton, despite what some political analyst may say.

Over at Trump Tower last night, Trump declared that the GOP primary was basically over due to his continued winning streak throughout the primaries.

I consider myself the presumptive nominee,” said Trump, whose ego continues to inflate over pulling in voters with his racist & sexist rhetoric who has aided in the billionaire’s sweeping win. “Governor (John) Kasich and Senator (Ted) Cruz have really, really hurt themselves with a faulty deal that was defaulted on before it was even started.”

Trump’s major win on Tuesday doesn’t come as much of a shock, even after Republican nominee hopefuls Governor John Kasich & Senator Ted Cruz announced a type of alliance that aims to divide some of the upcoming races in hopes of pulling voters away from Trump in order to stall his ceaseless momentum.

Cruz & Kaisch are being seen as the face of the so-called “Never Trump” movement which has appeared within the GOP and represents a faction within who wants to stop the New York businessman from ultimately taking the party’s nominee.

Even if the media yearns to declare this race over, the path to 1,237 delegates remains narrow for Trump, and he just left the most favorable part of the map for him in the northeast,” said the movement in a released statement.

Meanwhile, there is division of its own amongst the Democratic party but that is mostly felt within the voters as opposed to the party itself.

In the race to obtain their party’s nomination, the intense and very different rhetoric between Clinton & Sanders has created a dividing among voters. Seen as someone who can bring forth actual change and shake up the current climate of our government, Sanders has been labeled as the “politician of the people,” whereas Clinton has been viewed as the candidate who would protect the dubbed “1%” (i.e. banks) who have heavily thrown their support for her.

Although Clinton’s campaign has received a second wind—of sorts—after losing key states like Vermont to Sanders, Clinton still has to sway a great deal of voters who are distrustful of the presidential hopeful due to increasing reports of voting and campaigning foulplay pointing blame at Clinton’s campaign.

Despite their difference in platforms and the allegations made against her campaign, Clinton hopes to close this gap between democratic voters.

At a campaign rally in Philadelphia, Clinton seemed to address this gap of voters she has been unable to tap into stating that will work to win over Sanders’ supporters in order to unite the Democratic base.

Whether you support Senator Sanders or you support me, there’s much more that unites us than divides us,” said Clinton.

Although the second Super Tuesday provided an interesting insight on what’s to come in the days leading up to the November elections, none of the nominees secured enough delegates to win their party’s the nomination outright.

YAIR RODRIGUEZ AIRS OUT ANDRE FILI AT UFC 197

What we saw last night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, which has become the home of the UFC, is the future of mixed martial arts. On the undercard of UFC 197 was the crossing of two featherweight boats in the night. One, Andre Fili, was sunk. The other, Mexican unbeaten, Yair Rodríguez, arrived in port with a great story to tell.

Yair, from Parral, Mexico, is a 23 year old who put himself on the map by winning The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America in 2014 under Head Coach, Cain Velasquez.

Yair is a lot like the new generation of kids who grow up playing realistic video games in which they experiment with moves that usually can’t be tried in reality.

Yair has changed all that. He currently has the third longest winning streak in UFC and has not only a good ground game but uses his long, powerful legs and unique agility to win in the air. He scored a flying knee that Edgar Juarez still doesn’t recall and last night he took out a very experienced Samoan 25-year old in Fili known as “Fury.”

“I knew it was going to be a hard fight for me,”

Rodríguez admitted,

“But I don’t care. I’m here to fight the best guys in the world.”

But it was Yair that put out the flames in round two. Rodriguez tried a scissors kick that had just missed and his quickness was definitely something Fili had difficulty coping with.

“I saw when I closed his eye with a punch,”

Yair explained the ending,

“He was trying to step back and I could tell he couldn’t see so I just tried to do that switch-kick.”

Then it came. Yair lifted up in mid-air with his right leg bent and while still in the same motion kicked Fili with his left foot caving in the side of his head and flooring him out with no count necessary. It was the Karate Kid Crane Kick with a modern touch.

Indeed, Yair is a living video game come to life. But one to watch not only for his spectacular air attacks, but his rapid ground game and floor kicks which showed his ability to attack with a variety of techniques. UFC Featherweights are now on notice.

“They are trying to put someone up, and I want to be that guy,”

Yair responded to the question of his future.
