Spanish language channel Univision will finish the July 2013 sweep ratings derby at No. 1 beating all of the English-language broadcast networks! The network beat out ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC in both the 18-49 and 18-34 age groups. Univision drew an average audience of about 1.8 million people between July 8 and July 14, the most recent dates available from Nielsen according to the Miami Herald.
During the sweep, Univision has an average of nearly 3.6 million total viewers, 1.8 million adults 18-49, 874,000 adults 18-34, and 1.1 million people 12-34 in primetime. Univision’s variety show Sabo Gigante is up 16 percent in 18-49 age group and its highest rated primetime novela, Amores Verdaderos outshines first-run airings of many English-lanugage programs in key demos.
“Obviously, it’s an historic milestone for Univision, and frankly for Spanish-language media in general,” said Cesar Conde, president of Univision.
Univision has never won a prime-time sweeps period before. Nielsen numbers showed an increase in 6 percent for Univision this summer while for the English networks numbers went down slightly. About 5 percent of all televisions on during prime time were tuned to Univision, while other English language networks had 3 to 4 percent.
