“The Cruising Monologues” explores the topic of “cruising” which is walking or driving around locally in search of a sex partner, usually of the anonymous, casual, one-time variety.. Mostly done by gay men, cruising has been around for ages but not really openly acknowledged…until now – so come check out the stories of 6 individuals with 1 thing in common!
Jose Batista-Ayala, an up-and-coming playwright of Dominican/Puerto Rican descent from New York City is collaborating with the legendary Nuyorican Poets Café to present his 3rd piece, “The Cruising Monologues”. Inspired by Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues”, the “The Cruising Monologues” includes hilarious monologues, deep poetry, dance and is a roller-coaster of sincere emotions that will teach you a thing or two in the process!
The show debuted to a sold out audience on Monday, August 18, 2014 at New York City’s iconic off-Broadway cabaret theater, The Duplex. The reviews were very positive (www.josebatistaayala.com) hence the collaboration with Nuyorican Poets Café and its encore on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 7pm.
Jose hopes to have the show picked up by a television network as a one-hour special (just like of course, The Vagina Monologues), but encourages audiences to come check out the genius that is live-theater in the meantime.
