Gloria Trevi is coming to perform in New York City THIS Sunday. One thing that you can depend on with Gloria is the unexpected. She has been one of the most singular unique Latin acts in history. Well into her second stint of her career, Gloria has not slowed down one bit. She is as vibrant and curious as ever. I was fortunate to speak with Gloria from her Texas home. As she proclaimed at the start of this interview, “I was born ready and I want to learn.”
Coming to New York, Gloria has her favorite things to do. At the top of the list is a love of mass shopping. “I love Saks Fifth Avenue. I just love to buy things there,” Gloria said with her trademark laugh.” The tour is called “De Pelicula” from her album of the same name which brought to mind the question of who she would want to play her she responded coyly, “It would have to be someone who looks like me, I was thinking Angelina Jolie,” Gloria joked.
Gloria has been hot in the spotlight for 20 years and there is little that is not known. She thought hard about the question of things not known about her. “That’s a hard question. My fans know more about me and even remind me of things I forget.” Gloria laughs. Even her famous “Zapatos Viejos” (Old shoes) are not in her possession. “I don’t know where it is now. I gave those away to a fan years ago.”
Gloria continues to break barriers like learning a new language. She conducted this interview totally in English, something she is looking to conquer. “I like to joke with people that I am the Trevi-nator,” Gloria beams. “I want to practice and it’s better for me because I want to do an English album next.”
Gloria will be performing at Stage 48 on Sunday, March 23rd. Look for her interview in the upcoming issue of LatinTRENDS Magazine.
